Crew Information

Crewing is a well-established practice in 100-mile races and plays a vital role in many runners' race strategies. And at Cascade Crest, we prioritize a crew-friendly experience.

That said, we have implemented limited crew access to specific aid stations to ensure the safety of our runners and minimize the impact on dirt road sections.

The race exists at the whim of the Forest Service, and we want to maintain our good relationship.  Crew traffic has the most significant impact on the area during race weekend.  The aid stations listed below have limited roadside parking and access.

Notes on parking/driving:

  • Parking is tight at every aid station, please park sensibly.

  • Exit 62 accesses Stampede Pass and Lake Kachess

  • To limit the impact of the race on some of the more remote roads, please limit crew support to one vehicle per runner at each station

If you have crewed at Cascade Crest in the past, we kindly request you to review this section and familiarize yourself with any recent changes that may have been made.

Crewing is a hurry-up-and-wait situation:

  • Drive like every runner is your runner, and every car is carrying your best friend

  • Be nice to the aid station volunteers

  • Respect the rules implemented by the race

  • Bring a chair, some snacks and make a few new friends

If you’re new to crewing, check out this blog post.

Don’t forget to attend the Crew Meeting at 9:30AM the morning of the race. See Race Weekend Schedule for more details.

QUICK LINKS

STampede Pass + Ollalie Meadows

Access to runners by crew along the PCT section of the race has been limited to the Stampede Pass aid station, with limited access at Olallie Meadows.

Please consider skipping Olallie Meadows.  The road is usually in bad shape and you can see your runner just a few miles later at Hyak.

Please note: There is no overnight parking at Olallie Meadows.

Hyak

This is the most ideal crewing access. It’s at the half way point in your runner’s race and there’s ample space and parking.

Keechelus Ridge

To give runners a car-free journey over Keechelus Ridge, crew vehicles are not allowed on the paved or dirt roads between Hyak and Lake Kachess aid stations.

When leaving the Hyak aid station, crews will need to take the highway back to exit 62 to access Lake Kachess aid station. Do not turn left and drive down the access road north of I-90.

Mineral Creek

You can crew your runner when they come to the road intersection 2.5 miles out of the aid station, or you are welcome to walk down the road to the aid station and accompany your runner back up.

Crews are not allowed to drive all the way down to Mineral Creek. Crews must park at the top of the hill and then hike 2.5 miles down to the Mineral Creek Aid Station.

Don’t park past the road intersection (NF-46 and NF-4617). Please park before (east of) this intersection. We will have a sign up there to direct you. Don’t block any of the course markings, runners have missed this turn because a car obscured the ribbons.

If you start following course marker ribbons in your vehicle, please return to above the intersection.

LAke Kachess

Please park past the aid station

Silver Creek + Finish

Last 4 miles, baby!

Please note there is limited space for cars and aid at Silver Creek, but crews are welcome to run with their runner into the finish.

At the finish, volunteers will have chairs, food, water, and buckets to wash their feet.

If you are driving from Silver to the finish, please drive VERY carefully as you will follow the same path as other runners

— and studies have shown that most cars are faster than runners. Please slow down.

In all cases, please drive slowly and carefully, especially at night.  We worry more about you on the roads more than we do about your runners moseying along the trails.

You are welcome to retrieve your runner's drop bag before they arrive and help the aid station staff as other runners come through.
